Crock Pots & Other Items

Crock Pot

Crock pots have come a long way since our parents’ day with programmable settings and a variety of sizes and styles. I have this Crock Pot and love it. With a lot of mouths to feed I have a 7-quart one but make sure you find one that fits your family’s size and, of course, kitchen decor! I went with black because it’s easier to keep clean and it pretty much lives on my counter since I use it at least 1-2 times a week.

The only other item I think is necessary when making roasts in the crock pot is a gravy separator. You’re going to want to separate some of the fat from the gravy. Everything else – pots, pans, spoons, etc. you probably already have!

Roast Recipes

There are so many ways to do a beef roast in your crock pot! From simple to complicated (and I much prefer simple), here are a few of my families favorites!

You can use almost any type of roast in these recipes. I’ve used a sirloin roast, a chuck roast, or an arm roast.

Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 8 hours
Total Time 8 hours 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 - 4 pound chuck roast, I've done this with a variety of roast cuts!
  • 1 packet au jus gravy mix
  • 1 packet ranch seasoning
  • 1 stick butter, Salted or unsalted
  • 2-8 pepperoncini peppers, Use more or less depending on your heat preference
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tbsp flour

Instructions

  1. Place the roast inside the crock pot
  2. Sprinkle the dry gravy mix and ranch seasoning packing over the roast
  3. Place stick of butter on top of roast
  4. Add pepperoncini peppers on and around roast. (I like to add a little of the pepperoncini juice from the jar too!)
  5. Add water over everything.
  6. Cook for 6-8 hours on low.
  7. When done, the meat should shred easily. Remove the meat to a tray to shred and use a gravy separator to skim the fat from the gravy.
  8. If you like, use the flour to thicken the gravy on the stove.
  9. Serve over noodles or mashed potatoes with roasted vegetables or a salad.

  1. Does it make a difference if beef and pork are switched? All recipes look swell and I love the integration of Instacart into your blog… Bookmarking this site for keto friendly recipes..

    1. I think several would be great with pork although I’ve never tried them! Off to add a pork roast to my grocery list to experiment!
