How to Make These Valentines Cake Pops
Step 1: Bake and cool the cake
Bake the cake according to the package directions. Let it cool completely (warm cake turns gummy when mixed).

Step 2: Crumble the cake
Crumble the cooled cake into a large bowl until no large chunks remain.

Step 3: Mix cake crumbs with frosting
Add the frosting and mix until it forms a dough that holds together when pressed.

Step 4: Shape into balls and hearts
Roll into 1-inch balls (you’ll get about 20). For hearts, press and pinch the top slightly to form the shape. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Step 5: Chill the shapes
Refrigerate to firm up (about 30–60 minutes). The firmer they are, the easier they dip.
Step 6: Secure sticks with chocolate
Melt a small amount of white chocolate. Dip the stick tip into chocolate, then insert into each cake ball/heart. Chill again so the sticks set firmly.

Step 7: Melt the remaining white chocolate
Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between, until smooth (don’t overheat).

Step 8: Color half the chocolate
Divide into two bowls. Leave one white. Tint the other pink with food coloring until you like the shade.
Step 9: Dip and coat
Dip some pops in white chocolate and some in pink, letting excess drip off gently.

Step 10: Set the coating
Place back on parchment (or a cake pop stand/foam block). Let set at room temp or chill 15–30 minutes.
Step 11: Decorate
Before the coating fully hardens, add sprinkles. Once set, add heart chocolates and use writing icing for little messages.

Step 12: Serve
Arrange on a platter, wrap individually for gifting, or pack for a party.
Tip: If your chocolate feels too thick for dipping, warm it in short bursts and stir well. Thick chocolate can pull cake pops off the stick. So remember, chilling + smooth chocolate makes everything easier.

Substitutions
Cake mix: Any flavor works – vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, red velvet, funfetti. Choose your favorite
Frosting: Any ready-made frosting that matches the cake flavor; homemade buttercream also works if it’s thick.
White chocolate chips: Candy melts/melting wafers are often easier for beginners because they’re made for dipping.
Gluten-free: Use a certified gluten-free cake mix and frosting, plus gluten-free sprinkles.
Dairy-free: Use a dairy-free cake mix, dairy-free frosting, and dairy-free melting chocolate (check labels to make sure).
Variation Ideas
As I said, these Valentine’s Day cake pops are very customizable. Here are some ideas you may like.
- Red velvet Valentine cake pops: Red velvet cake + cream cheese frosting, white coating, red sprinkles.
- Strawberry shortcake style: Strawberry cake + vanilla frosting, white coating, pink drizzle.
- Marbled pink-and-white: Dip once in white, then drizzle/pull through pink for a swirled look.
- Conversation hearts: Use writing icing to add short phrases (“Be Mine,” “XOXO,” “Love”).
- Deluxe: Add a second drizzle, crushed cookies, or edible glitter for a dessert-table showstopper.
