Walking Dessert Ingredients

There are a variety of walking desserts you can make from smores flavor to strawberry pretzel or strawberry cheesecake! You’re really only limited by your imagination, so try a variety and mix things up a bit!

Individual Cookie or Pretzel Packages – Get your hands on a box similar to the one depicted below, filled with bite-sized cookies and pretzels, to mix and match flavors and create your ideal combination. Out of the various cookie packets available in grocery stores, I settled for this specific one that I found in my nearby store and also easily accessible on Amazon.

Walking Desserts Ingredient

Pudding and/or Jello – You can either grab the individual cups of vanilla or chocolate pudding in the snack aisle or your local grocery store or grab some Instant Pudding mix and whip up your own flavors. I like to grab the individual pudding cups when I’m camping as they are easily stored in the pantry and convenient. However, if I’m making walking desserts for a crowd or setting up a walking dessert bar I’ll mix up different flavors of Instant Pudding mix. Vanilla and chocolate are the two most commonly used pudding flavors in these walking dessert ideas. However, strawberry jello is needed for the strawberry pretzel dessert and cheesecake flavored pudding for the strawberry cheesecake walking dessert.

Toppings and Add-Ins – You will need a variety of toppings and add-ins depending on what flavor walking dessert you’ll be making. Fresh sliced bananas for a banana pudding walking dessert and fresh strawberries for a walking pretzel strawberry dessert. Mini-marshmallows, mini chocolate chips and whipped cream are great additions to walking desserts.

How to Make Walking Desserts

Walking desserts are super simple to make. Whether you set up a walking dessert bar with all the ingredients laid out and let people choose their combination or make a batch of omne flavor.

To make one walking dessert, grab an individual bag of cookies or pretzels and open it. Lightly crush the contents of the bag. I highly recommend opening the package before crushing or the bag might pop open and cookies will go everywhere!

Add a few spoonfuls of pudding or jello or both! Add sliced bananas, sliced strawberries or marshmallows and mini chocolate chips depending on the flavor you want. Top with whipped cream, if desired, and serve in the bag with a spoon!

Tips and Tricks

A few tips and tricks to make walking desserts super simple!

  • Open the individual cookie, pretzel or cereal bags before crushing to prevent the bag from popping.
  • If you are using Jello, use a spoon to chop it up a bit before adding it to the bag.
  • These walking desserts are best made just before serving, otherwise the pudding or Jello can make the other ingredients soggy.
  • To make things easier, I usually opt for a store-bought can of whipped cream and individual pudding cups. However, you could prepare homemade whipped cream and Instant Pudding in advance, or even whip up your own pudding from scratch.

Walking desserts have revolutionized the way we enjoy our favorite sweets. From classic treats to innovative creations, the world of handheld desserts offers a wide range of flavors, and combinations to try. Walking desserts are the perfect option for anyone who wants to enjoy a sweet treat while strolling through a park, visiting a festival, camping or simply satisfying their dessert cravings in a hassle-free way.
