Ingredients
6
tablespoons
whole dried allspice berries
about 1 ounce/28 grams
Instructions
Measure the allspice berries. Make sure the berries, grinder, and storage jar are completely dry.
Add the berries to the spice grinder without filling it past the manufacturer's limit. Work in batches if needed.
Grind for about 20 seconds, or until the hard cracking sound stops.
Let the spice dust settle. Check for large pieces and pulse again until the spice reaches the texture you need.
Transfer the ground allspice to a clean, dry airtight jar. Label with the grinding date.
Notes
Grind in batches if the grinder cup is crowded.
Let the spice dust settle before opening the lid.
A mortar and pestle works but usually makes a coarser powder.
Store in a cool, dark, dry cupboard and use within about 2 months for the strongest aroma.
The ground yield varies by berry size and grind texture. Measure the finished powder when exact volume matters.
Nutrition information was not calculated because spices are normally used in small amounts.
